Where to put a dumpster
The truck that brings a roll-off needs room to back up, tilt its bed and slide the container off. Pick the spot before the driver arrives.
Phone hours: Monday–Saturday 8am–8pm, Sunday 8am–1pm ET

Before delivery day
- Move cars out of the driveway, and off the street in front of it.
- Look up: the hoist rises well above the truck, so low wires and big branches matter.
- Measure the clear length. The container plus the truck needs much more than the container alone.
- Mark sprinkler heads, septic lids or a soft spot so the driver avoids them.
- Leave room to open the container's rear door if you plan to walk things in.
Protecting the driveway
Steel rails on concrete or asphalt can scrape and, with a heavy load, crack a weak slab. Ask for plywood or boards under the rails. Asphalt softens on hot summer days, which makes boards more important.
A flat spot keeps the container from shifting as it fills. Avoid steep slopes and the edge of a slab.

Other people's rules
HOAs and condo boards
Many neighborhoods limit how long a container can stand or where. Read the rules, or ask the manager, before you book.
Landlords
Renters need the owner's permission, and apartment lots may have set spots for deliveries.
The city
Street, alley or sidewalk means a permit question. See permits in Louisville.
Book the container while it's on your mind
Say what you're clearing out, where the dumpster can sit and which day suits you. By the end of the conversation you'll know the container, the delivery morning and what you'd pay.
