Dumpster for a roof tear-off
Old asphalt shingles are among the heaviest things a homeowner throws away. If your roofer isn't hauling the tear-off, the container has to be sized for weight, not looks.
Phone hours: Monday–Saturday 8am–8pm, Sunday 8am–1pm ET

Size by weight, not by volume
One layer of shingles off an average house often fits a 10 to 20-yard container by volume. Two or three layers, or a large roof, can exceed the weight allowance while the box still looks part empty. Tell the company the roof's size and the number of layers, and let it choose.
Felt paper, drip edge and flashing go in with the shingles. Rotten decking adds more weight again.
Where the container should sit
As close under the eave as the truck can reach, so shingles drop or slide straight in. Keep it clear of the service wires, gutters and the shrubs along the foundation.
Roof tear-offs scatter nails. Ask the roofer, or a rental store, about a magnetic sweeper, and run it over the driveway and lawn once the container is gone.

Roofing questions
Can the container stay in the street during a roof job?
Only with a Metro Pod or Dumpster Permit in the parking lane, never on the sidewalk. See the permit guide.
What if it rains with the container half full?
Wet shingles weigh more. Ask whether the company provides or allows a tarp over the load.
Book the container while it's on your mind
Say what you're clearing out, where the dumpster can sit and which day suits you. By the end of the conversation you'll know the container, the delivery morning and what you'd pay.
